The Theatre Education Program

Our Values

Our program

The University of New Hampshire offers majors in both Secondary Theatre Education and Youth Drama, alongside many more theatre majors! Our comprehensive theatre program offers a wide variety of theatre education classes such as Teacher Planning for Theatre, Community Oriented Drama, Theatre for Young Audiences, Arts Integration, Methods of Teaching, and many more! In this program, students also have the opportunity to get their Master's degree in five years! Alongside these classes, students are also given the opportunity to test what they have learned. In a few of the classes, students go to a local school or community theatre to teach theatre to children or, in some cases, senior citizens. In Teacher Planning for Theatre, students participate in Performing Arts Day, where children from local middle and high schools visit UNH and theatre education students have the opportunity to teach a lesson. There are also many opportunities given to students for internships to grow as educators, at places like the Kennedy Center and Rose Theater. Arts Reach

Arts Reach

The ArtsReach touring program visits schools and performs a 30-45 minute program for elementary and middle school-aged students throughout the region. Shows also include a talk-back opportunity for students to learn more about the content of the show, the process of touring theatre, and more. The actors of these productions are UNH Undergraduate Theater and Dance students from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH.
